History
How it all started
Edge Studio Collaborative Ltd was set up by Andrew Newby. Andrew originally worked as a freelance designer and developer after graduating from Loughborough University in 2008. During this time Andrew used the trading name Fly Digital and used flydigital.co.uk as the domain. After a few years he discovered the limitations of working as a sole-trader and essentially a single person operation. Soon after he collaborated with Nick Hurford, a web developer, forming a strong partnership. Nick studied computer science in Sheffield.

About the author
I’m Andrew Newby, director of Edge Studio. Over the years, I’ve worked with countless clients who started with cheap custom website designs or templates, only to find themselves limited by functionality and hidden costs. As someone whose passion is creating scalable, professional websites, I’ve seen firsthand how a well-designed site pays for itself over and over in increased business.
At Edge Studio, our team has spent years helping businesses upgrade from restrictive templates to quality custom designs that grow alongside their business and its long-term goals. Here, I’ll share insights from those experiences to help you make informed decisions about your own online presence.

Rebranding
From Fly Digital to Edge Studio
As business progressed it was clear there was a need for copywriting and marketing to enhance the collaborative service offered. Fly Digital was originally about independent freelancers working together. While Edge Studio was set up around this approach to designing websites we felt it would be better represented under a new name: Edge Studio. While we work independently around Sheffield we registered the office at The Circle, Rockingham Lane. Although we don’t work from here day to day we use it as a central location for meeting local clients and have office space when needed.
The purpose of the collaboration is to bring the best skills in design, development, copywriting and marketing.
During the time that Fly Digital Switch to Edge Studio Andrew felt it was an optimal time to rebrand and showcase the latest projects and clients. Flydigital.co.uk has now been set up to redirect all traffic to edge.studio.
